Aluminum Bezel

Vaer Watches Updated by Vaer Watches

Aluminum is one of the most commonly used bezel material options available on watches. It is loved for its vintage aesthetic and capacity to develop a beautifully faded patina.

Many of the most valuable and sought-after watches in the world are mid-20th century dive watches that use aluminum bezel inserts.

Watches like the military-issued Rolex Submariner (Milsub), and early Rolex GMTs can sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars at auction. As with discolored tropical dials, aluminum bezels are loved for their unique capacity to fade in color over time.

While Rolex and many other Swiss luxury manufacturers shifted their bezels to ceramic bezels in the early 2000s due to increased scratch resistance, aluminum remains a very popular option in modern watches - most notably seen on the highly sought-after Tudor Black Bay line.

The Tudor Black Bay, as well as numerous Vaer watch models such as the D4 Solar Diver and G7 Meridian, use anodized aluminum in their bezels. Anodizing is an electrochemical process that converts the metal surface into a decorative, durable, corrosion-resistant finish, while still maintaining the vintage aesthetic loved by watch collectors and enthusiasts.
